Overview
Being physically and mentally prepared for the birth of your baby
and early parenthood is the best coping strategy available to
parents to be. As midwives we have a wealth of knowledge to
guide you through this process and allow you to feel confident as
you approach the birth of your baby. There are two key elements to
our services, preparation for labour and preparation for early
parenthood.
Preparation for early parenthood
The first six weeks of life with a new baby can be a huge
adjustment and may involve a range of brand new tasks for you to
undertake which many people find daunting. With demonstrations and
an opportunity to practice these skills you will develop coping
strategies and feel confident in caring for your newborn.

Preparation for labour
It has been found
through midwives experience that the positions you adopt during late pregnancy and labour can
influence the way your baby lies in the uterus. This can in turn
influence the efficacy of your labour, with the aim being to
optimise the likelihood of you achieving a natural labour and
delivery.
Your mental preparation for labour is also of great
importance as your understanding of the processes your body will
undergo empowers you to cope. You will gain a knowledge of the
physiology of labour, coping strategies and the events that may
arise in a hospital setting.
