One of the Blooming
Expectations experienced midwives will come to your home at a time
convenient to you to provide your antenatal classes. You
will not only be able to take advantage of the midwives wealth of
knowledge and experience but have the flexibility to cover the
specific subjects you feel you require.
You will receive
supplementary literature during each of your sessions along with
complimentary products to choose from for mum and baby. A summary of
the information covered will also be provided following each
meeting.
A
telephone consultation will be included free of charge prior to any
individual teaching to ensure you get the most out of your sessions.

to your specific needs. You may choose the full programme of core
topics or select individual sessions. If you have specific questions
or areas you wish to cover we can even put parts of sessions
together to make up your personal programme. We are also happy to
discuss the addition of other areas you wish to learn more about as

Preparation for labour
You will gain an in depth knowledge of the physiological changes
your body will go through, to provide you with confidence to cope
with the challenges of labour. We will discuss the choices and
decisions you may have to consider throughout your labour and birth
so you feel prepared for all eventualities. Plus practical support
for how to cope at home and in hospital, when you should go to the
hospital and what will happen when you get there. Approx 3 hours.

Being Active for Birth
This session is mainly practical and focuses on using the positions
you adopt in late pregnancy and labour to optimise the chance of you
achieving a natural birth. The theory behind the practise will also
be discussed. Relaxation and massage for labour is also demonstrated
and you are given the opportunity to practice, giving you further
coping resources for the big day. Approx 2 hours.

Preparation for Early
Parenthood
This session will be spent learning about the needs of you and your
baby during the first six weeks after birth. This period presents
some of the toughest challenges of parenthood, at a time when you
are coping with sleep deprivation and your own recovery. Therefore
half of this session will be used to discuss lifestyle changes and
coping strategies. The rest of the session is practical, providing
you with the skills for caring for a newborn, including changing,
bathing, care of the umbilical cord and much more. Approx 3 hours.

Breastfeeding
In this
session you will gain an understanding of how your body prepares for
and responds to breastfeeding. This will include anatomy and
physiology, as well as practical information on how to recognise
whether your baby is breastfeeding well, and what to do if you
experience problems. Approx 2 hours.
